For context, the assignment was a personal belief essay like the NPR series "This I Believe." Student turns in an expository essay about red lining that does not meet the requirements for the assignment at all. It was also copied and pasted in one chunk, is not even close to her voice, and was submitted less than a minute after the assignment was opened. Did I mention that it was due in January? Anyway. I, of course, talked to the student about why I would not accept this assignment. She claims that her mom helped her. I pointed out my other concerns, like it being pasted from another source and not matching the requirements for the assignment. She yelled that her mom wrote it and I couldn't give her mom a zero. Am I calling her mom stupid? She's going to tell her mom that I said she was stupid. I didn't say this, of course, but I've had correspondence with this student's mother and this essay did not reflect her abilities, either. I did point out that this was a writing class and the person being graded for it is the person who should do the writing and it should meet the requirements of the assignment. All late work is due today. No, I will not give an extension. submitted by /u/AndrysThorngage [link] [comments]
