Hi! I'm a high school junior and i'd like to share my story about the usage of AI in the classroom. I feel as if students are now relying on AI for every assignment. Kids will scroll on their phones during class and then when given a test/assessment, they go straight to their phones/computers for chagpt. Here's one example: In English class, we were assigned a 5 paragraph essay about the Dead Poets Society (that's a movie we're watching) where we pretty much have to write as if we're one of his friends (Todd, John etc) and try to convince Neil to get some help for his mental issues. I kid you not, less than a minute after the teacher assigned the essay (which we have to do on a Word document), kids were goin straight to ChatGPT like there's no tomorrow. There were a few students (myself included) that didn't use AI for it, but most of them did use AI. I strongly believe AI is not only damaging our brains, but also reducing/removing vital human skills such as critical thinking, good attention spans, and most of all, common sense. Do you guys think the use of AI will eventually decline? or will it continue to rise until kids just ask AI for everything? submitted by /u/Remarkable-Chip7973 [link] [comments]
