In a heartwarming story of full circle, a group of individuals who once benefited from the Peer Connections program in the Ann Arbor Public Schools (AAPS) district have now given back to their community as special education teachers. The Peer Connections program, which pairs students with disabilities with trained peer mentors, has been a staple of AAPS for years, providing invaluable support and socialization opportunities for students. Now, some of the program's former participants have taken the next step, using their own experiences to inform and inspire their teaching practices. As they guide the next generation of students with disabilities, these special education teachers are paying it forward and creating a lasting impact on their community.
