I'm in school right now to get my degree in education and my teaching license. We're talking about grading: My professor says 'saying 'you should have been listening, I already said that' doesn't foster learning, or actually help the students. Which, I sort of agree with? But also how else am I supposed to get them to listen to me the first time, avoid repeating myself, or teach them any sort of responsibility? Maybe I'll tell them to ask one of their classmates? But I'm not repeating myself 800 times because my students don't care enough to listen when I talk... I recognize that I have a lot of older or 'outdated' views about teaching, but I feel like it's more that I refuse to coddle my students, because that hinders them so much more than me being direct. I'm not gonna be mean, but I'm not going to treat them like royalty just because they're kids. Young humans are still capable. Am I acting crazy by thinking this? submitted by /u/Claialrlay [link] [comments]
