Genuinely wondering on this. The big thing we all say is that "oh, they learn it from home," admin are always harping on about "make sure you do parent contacts." But is that true? I've emailed a lot of parents.

Genuinely wondering on this. The big thing we all say is that "oh, they learn it from home," admin are always harping on about "make sure you do parent contacts." But is that true? I've emailed a lot of parents. Most don't respond. Some are defiant and confrontational. Some are apologetic and helpful. However, even in the best outcome scenario, the most that's happened is that the student is humbled for a few days, and then is right back to their behavior. Kids are lacking in experience, but they're quick on picking up patterns. They know enough about how they can get away with more at Grandma's than they can at home. They know that Mom can be negotiated with but Dad means business. And they're more than capable of figuring out what they can and can't get away with at school regardless of how much their parent is contacted. I really have a hard time seeing "parent contact" as some sort of magic tool that will correct behaviors arising at school. EDIT: Okay, testimonials are coming in. I may need to shift my cynicism. submitted by /u/Afalstein [link] [comments]
