A recent survey conducted by the Hawaii Department of Education (HIDOE) has shed light on the ongoing housing crisis affecting teachers and school employees in the Aloha State. The findings, released by the Hawaii State Teachers Association, paint a concerning picture of the difficulties faced by educators in securing affordable housing. According to the survey, many teachers and school staff are struggling to find suitable housing, with nearly half of respondents reporting that they have to commute long distances or even live outside of the island they work on due to the lack of available and affordable housing options. The survey highlights the urgency of addressing the housing crisis, which not only affects the well-being of educators but also has implications for student learning and teacher retention in Hawaii's schools.
