My 1st year of teaching after career change. I teach coding. No union.

My 1st year of teaching after career change. I teach coding. No union. Last Monday a student told his mom an elaborate story about how he asked for help multiple times, I just kept telling him "Push the button" and when he didn't know what to do, I threatened to involve the principlal and also threatened to call his mom. What actually happened: I repeatedly urged him to log in, urged him to sit down and get back to his coding lesson when he was out of his seat, then caught him coloring and took the coloring page away. I suggested setting up a meeting with the mom and son, which will happen tomorrow (Monday). I sent a second message Wednesday saying I would check in with the student as I was in the building. Checked in with student who walked back everything he said to his mom. Since then the mom has escalated to the principal and threatened to call the school board. saying "I asked you nicely to not meet with my son unsupervised"--she sent that email after I was already checking in with his advisory teacher and pulling him for a conversation. My admin has been supportive and taking a "wait and see" approach. An Asst Principal I like and trust will attend the meeting with me, and the student will be in the meeting. Any suggestions on what to say/not say in this meeting? I would seriously love to have a 2nd adult in the classroom for the last 6 lessons this year (I see him 1x week). Can one kid and his mom could do serious damage just when I'm up for renewal? submitted by /u/Ok_Ingenuity_9313 [link] [comments]
