I am a teacher, who after six years in the classroom, am becoming a dean of students. I am currently finishing my M. Ed and have been given an admin position, at a school that has been described as "a different tax bracket" than what I am used to. For context, I work at one of the largest schools in my district, with one of the largest majority-minority populations and poorest populations in the district. Before that I was at a middle school with a similar population to my current location. I am looking not only for advice about handling parents of this new population, from a teacher perspective, but also advice that teachers think I should keep in mind, as I don't want people to assume administration was my plan all along and teaching was just a check on a to-do list. I entered this program as a way to not only go to a prestigious university on my district's dime, but also as a way to kind of be the change in a broken system. Any advice is helpful. submitted by /u/Hefty-Statistician33 [link] [comments]
