I am not even too sure how this has become this serious of a situation but let me give you a run down. I am a study hall teacher not gen ed. I have a group of students who talk the entire time in one of my periods, within this group is a child who was already expelled from the school (main character here). So this student told another student to go kill themselves 3 times. I messaged the student privately to ask him to move seats. He did not and just ignored my message. I did not want to start a conflict. So I called his dad about the situation and told him why I wanted him to move his seat. I also wrote the student up. I guess the students dad was upset about the situation. Now I am in the hot seat because I should’ve investigated the situation further and I did not? Like I was working with other students and the student didnt move his seat so I could speak with him privately. So the real issue is they do not want to deal with this student and his family any more. One thing I know is he for sure said what he said. I guess the context was taken too serious and he didnt mean for her to actually kill herself. So the principal pretty much asked me to change my written statement to say I misinterpreted what the student said or I would face disciplinary action because that is not what the student meant. I never said I interpreted as anything btw, I just wrote what I heard. I did not assume anything… These schools are dangerous for teachers right now. If we do our job we’re in the hot seat. If we dont do our job we are also in the hot seat. I have also asked them several times if they checked the camera, no response. This all just seems so damn shady. I have never had this big of an issue with calling home. And why do schools think they have a right to tell adults to not tell a parent about their own childs behavior?! Schools have no right to tell another adult to not tell a parent something. Parents these schools are withholding information from you about your child’s true nature and behavior. I dont know why but we are seeing the consequences. Me misinterpreting someone is one thing. Buy acting like I'm crazy for reporting this is a whole other level. submitted by /u/FreeGold_Dove [link] [comments]
