I’m not sure what state everyone is in, but in my state (Texas) we had the big standardized state test coming up. It always seems like the teachers who just get by, always miss meetings, don’t understand their content, or coaches never have to proctor. They always get hall duty or restroom duty. I asked my campus admin in charge of testing if I could not proctor because my husband died last year while I was in my 2nd period class. It’s been a lot and school has been extremely helpful, except I had a panic attack proctoring last year. Just being in a room with no talking and only monitoring students made me start spiraling about life and it was not good. So I asked my admin if they could have me doing tech support, hall duty, restroom duty, anything where I’m not in a room that’s silent for 4 hours. She said I had to go through HR and they’re going to do an investigation. Like how am I able to teach properly but not be a proctor.. it honestly felt like she was discouraging me to get an accommodation. Our students get so many accommodations but teachers have to jump through hoops to get them? I asked why they couldn’t have the usual suspects proctor who never seem to be on the list (because of their incompetence) and there were just excuses as to why they couldn’t proctor. I just don’t understand. We don’t have unions here. Have any of you dealt with any of this? How did you approach this situation or do you have teachers who are constantly left out of important duties because admin knows they’re incompetent? submitted by /u/unicorn_gangbang [link] [comments]
