I don’t have a job yet, I just obtained my prelim credential. I’m currently subbing, and I would not use this as a sub. This would be for my own classroom. I would establish the dynamic first class and introduce the whistle so they would be aware ahead of time. It wouldn’t just be a surprise. I don’t like yelling, and generally cool and relaxed as a person, so I’m not exactly intimidating if I yell. Most of all it doesn’t help, and it’s hard to return to a measured demeanor after that. I’m not married to the whistle. If anyone has any suggestions that aren’t yelling, let me know. EDIT: I SHOULD HAVE ASKD THE QUESTION DIFFERENTLY. FORGET ABOUT THE WHISTLE.
