So I am a 2nd year middle school teacher. Specifically 7th grade. I work at a title one school where majority of the students have several issues going on at home, especially economically.
So I am a 2nd year middle school teacher. Specifically 7th grade. I work at a title one school where majority of the students have several issues going on at home, especially economically. I noticed a lot of students wear the same clothes repeatedly, often times with odors and stains accompanied with the clothes. Today I was going through my closet and noticed a cute PINK hoodie, still in good condition I just don’t wear it anymore. My first thought was to give it it to a student that could fit it and I know is in need. Along with some Airmax shoes I bought years ago and never wore. I told my husband my idea and he argued with me that it is weird and unfair. Told me that I should just give it to the goodwill because if you don’t have enough clothes for every student then it’s unfair. He said he bet if I ask my principal if I could give away the jacket to a student she would say no because it’s inappropriate and if she allowed me to she is a terrible principal. Also said the kids I don’t give anything to would be jealous and mad they didn’t get anything. I always planed on giving the clothes away discreetly, if they choose to share with their classmates I gifted it to them I wouldn’t mind of course. Also I got this idea from a veteran teacher who gives away her son’s old clothes to the students. Is this a bad idea? submitted by /u/Specific_Current7931 [link] [comments]
