I’m not in a union state!!!! I’m a new teacher who started mid year. I technically started in December because my college program let me, but I was only considered a sub and not certified. I became certified in January. Spring break starts on Friday. I filled out a leave request form for a dentist appointment at the end of the month and just went to turn it into my bookkeeper and she mentioned how I won’t get paid for 2 days of spring break. I asked why and she said I don’t have enough annual leave which was confusing because I haven’t/can’t use any. She explained that because I wasn’t certified until January, I don’t have enough annual leave built up and would have to take 2 days of spring break as leave without pay, equaling about $400 ish. It feels like I wasn’t going to be told if I hadn’t gone to her office. I’m also extremely frustrated that I didn’t find out until there’s only one school day left before break. Originally, I was supposed to go visit my grandpa for the one year anniversary of my grandma’s death (they were married 60 years) over break but it looks like now I won’t be able to. He lives in another state, so it would be a multiple day trip, and now I just won’t have time. Do I have any options in this situation other than coming in over break and working? I’m just so frustrated. submitted by /u/Salt-Ad-3061 [link] [comments]
