I suppose I could use some advice here on how to proceed. I accepted an LOA job as a social studies teacher in New Jersey a few weeks ago. In that time I have met with the team and spent almost two weeks developing content. The teacher I was supposed to fill in for had been teaching for 40 years and had nothing for me but long, disjointed PowerPoints. Well, it was supposed to start tomorrow. I was told today it was cancelled, as the teacher decided not to go on leave all of a sudden. They offered me a building sub job that I rejected out of hand. I've been preparing to be a social studies teacher, as my contract stated, and I'll either be a social studies teacher or we'll go to court. Anyone else heard of this happening? EDIT: We did in fact have a contract that stipulated a 30-day notice period and that I would be teaching social studies. Not only have I passed up other contract offers and stopped looking for jobs, but I have spent the last two weeks preparing for this job. EDIT AGAIN: Looks like nothing gets teachers behind admin more than a lowly temp trying to assert their rights. So be it. submitted by /u/Competitive_Mark9117 [link] [comments]
