I am a first year specialist (foreign language) teacher, working 1 FTE. Union. First teaching job, I love it a lot. My district sucks but it's close to home, and my department and colleagues are great. I have used most of my sick leave and took one salary deduct day. As part of my teaching contract we get roughly 12 days of personal leave and 12 salary deduct. When you've expended both, apparently you are fired/in big trouble. This spring I had the opportunity OF A LIFETIME. A 3 week-long language instruction program out of the country. I so desperately want to attend this. I have considered just going because while my job means a lot to me, learning this language for myself means a lot more. But I don't want to have to give one up for the other... Especially if a breach of contract might mess up my future with this district or other schools. But is there any possibility that I can do both? Keep my contract and attend this program that will prevent me from working 15 teacher salary days? Could I load up on online assignments/do videos? Could it be considered PD? Or can I go on extended leave or something? submitted by /u/daikondaakon [link] [comments]
