Special Ed ELA teacher and union member in Florida, here. Our students are all Emotional and Behavioral Disability kids. I teach all secondary grades. This is the fourth year our school has been open and I've been there from the start. New admin two years ago, and a newly-minted principal who's been at the school for 3 years. New AP 2 years ago who does all secondary observations but is supported by the principal. Four of us have been non-renewed. Another was but he's retiring anyway. There may be others in elementary, I don't know. We've all gone from highly effective to needs improvement over two years. Two others left mid-year. They've not been replaced because no one has applied or they're unsuitable. Our union is involved. I almost reported this AP for harassment earlier this year but the union talked me out of it. This feels political. Like there's something bigger going on. I'm just heartbroken to think of leaving students I've spent years building relationships with, who've made huge strides in behavior and academics but still need a lot of support. The idea that I don't know how to teach them baffles me, honestly. Some of the comments and elements I'm unsatisfactory in are wild! I don't recognize myself or my teaching in them. Right now I'm refusing to finalize anything. I'd be grateful for any support or advice. submitted by /u/Think-Fall5011 [link] [comments]
