I received my final observation this Friday and I was scored the worst rating in my four years of teaching. I understand I’m still a baby teacher and truly love guidance but I didn’t love my comments. To keep it short: We tested all last week and didn’t teach a single thing due to state testing. We’re in the middle of Lord of the Flies and subsequently haven’t touched the work for a whole week. My observed lesson was, DoNow, Refresh, Mini Symbolism lesson, I read aloud, and students complete a deeper analysis of the chapter through graphic organizers online. I did read for 30 minutes of our 80-minute period, but that was intentional. We hadn’t touched the book in so long. The students can benefit from sustained active reading. The state test had an audio section the students loathed. I never do audiobooks because I like to pause and discuss intermittently. The following lesson, I coincidentally already invited my observer to watch because it’s fun! I put so much effort into it. It’s a survivor challenge with academic challenges revolving around Lord of the Flies. I bought leis for the kids, toothpicks & marshmallows, puzzles, pigs, and pre sorted groups and the desks to accommodate. I think it was a beautiful lesson to follow up a reading heavy class prior. My observation had no strengths and all areas of growth. The observer said I was unprofessional for doing a sing song voice at times. They said I put unnecessarily charged, violent language into the room when cueing, “Alright guys, I’m gonna kill the DoNow slide in another minute.” They said I need to be more professional overall, could have had assigned work during the reading, and should have corrected students posture. I’m ✨ dejected ✨ 🥲 submitted by /u/andrewlynn24 [link] [comments]
