Sorry if this is a dumb question, but are you guys getting engagement from families and caregivers? At all? I am a gen-ed 4th grade teacher.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but are you guys getting engagement from families and caregivers? At all? I am a gen-ed 4th grade teacher. I am also a parent and while I absolutely understand how hard it is out here, it's like an echo of the same apathy from students. I had ONE, one single parent come to the conference today. The rest I had to track down AGAIN (some even have the school number blocked or changed their address/phone number and never updated the school?) and even then over the phone some were downright testy with me for contacting them at all (...what?) and several straight up told me they will never check the app we use. I had a parent tell me after seven MONTHS of school that she had no idea her student had homework. Ever. I mean, the homework is optional (they get a prize for returning it) but I have been sending it home daily for practice and updating with newsletters and photos and even clear instructions for the parents. Fortunately we have a system where we log every contact so I can show the receipts of my attempts to reach them 8x already BEFORE I called them today again. I am just kinda flabbergasted. I have had bad batches before but like, your kid is with me all day 5 days a week, *arent you even curious?* I guess I feel like I can relax a little now, these parents dont seem to give a %$#& about their kids poor grades because they know we can't retain, they will get passed on to 5th grade regardless. If they don't care, and the kids don't care, and admin doesn't seem to care, like...why have I been so stressed? lol submitted by /u/MindStriking3840 [link] [comments]
