This child has had terrible attendance for their entire k-5 education. This child, let’s say A, in my 5th grade class. Like the title say, A has been absent 70+ days this school year alone. Due to the chronic absenteeism, A has had a hard time being part of the classroom community. Kids don’t wanna work with A for group projects because A isn’t there to help with the work. Hard to form a bond when A isn’t there either. But the mother of A is very…aggressive. She demands a meeting whenever A has been upset. A gets upset over small things like being redirected. A sometimes will cry. And I said well you don’t need to cry about it. Just fix it and let it go. It’s okay. A went home and cried to their mom. Next day, I lose my prep for this meeting. Thank god my principal knows this parent and her history and has my back. In the meeting, the parent basically attacks me. Saying I made A upset about my health and that I’m really stressed. A’s mom said she shouldn’t worry about this on top of her own health problems. …Constipation. I kid you not. Then says that A told her I said she wasn’t working and didn’t listen to what she said and said don’t cry and I shut down her voice. This is all so wild to me. If you knew the way my class is and the bonds I’ve made, this is the last thing I ever do. But come on. The kid was not working. Again. I can’t correct your kid? She offered to come up there. Like dude this is 5th grade. How embarrassing This parent ignored my request for a parent teacher conference. Doesn’t seem to care of all the missing work A has. It’s just exhausting. I guess attack me because I’m an easy target. Just 50 more days with this family. I’m almost done. But the ridiculously of all this. Middle school is about to eat this kid up alive. I will say I’m blessed with a great class of parents over all this year. So 💁🏼‍♀️gotta take the sour with the sweet submitted by /u/bigdreamerx3 [link] [comments]
