Just your yearly reminder that admin will always throw you under the bus to save their own ass. A teacher was charged with a felony and ended up pleading guilty to get a year of probation for changing grades. Meanwhile the principal was allowed to resign and walk away. And nothing happened to any district level administrators who probably pressured the principal to pressure the teacher. https://www.wate.com/news/anderson-county-news/fired-clinton-hs-teacher-charged-in-grade-changing-investigation-takes-plea-deal/ NEVER agree to change a student's grade by verbal request. If it is a written directive, then confirm in writing that it is a directive, make sure your objection is on record, then print out any emails and forward them to a non-school account. I've seen situations where admin will have IT delete emails from the teacher's account that may end up incriminating them. If it's possible to do so without fear of losing your job or facing reprisal, then say "I don't feel comfortable doing this. You can change their transcript if you feel it is appropriate." Remember, it might seem like it is just the principal asking you to do this, but most district admin and school boards tacitly support this practice, and if they don't think the local news or sheriff will investigate, "going to the board" is not going to help. And while a few stories make headlines, many news outlets also don't care. So just do whatever you can to ensure that you can prove you were coerced into the situation. submitted by /u/monkeydave [link] [comments]
