Location: Arkansas (LEARNS Act 🙄) Backstory: I’ve been teaching high school upper level math for 12 years at the same district. No ongoing issues that I’m aware of, other than a school board member’s wife, who’s had it out for my department for YEARS. I am not department head (we don’t have one). I have had good AP scores, and good EOY ratings. I’ve also gotten merit incentive pay. Our district is on its 7th superintendent in my experience there. We also lost most of our board when the district was re-zoned a couple of years ago and got all new board members (except 1) and none of our current members have any experience or ties to education, except that they are parents of students in our district. Details: Right before spring break, I was called into the principal’s office and told that the district would not be offering me a contract next year. The principal couldn’t really give me a reason except a really vague “well, what you’re doing isnt what’s best for the kids.” They couldn’t give me any specifics. Told me there were no emails (or even a paper trail). But also that I had a reputation. That I had to know I had problems. But the thing is, I don’t. The coworkers I told about my non-renewal are genuinely shocked. Some even made comments like “I figured I would’ve been non-renewed before you.” Coworkers have said the only reputation they know of is that I hold my kids accountable. So I’m at a loss. Question: Should I resign? Or let them non-renew me? Genuine question. I don’t really know what the bad side is to non-renewal. No one at work can really tell me. I don’t know that I want to stay in education if that changes things. submitted by /u/mylifeandpi [link] [comments]
