I was given a Film Studies class for high school seniors, and I've been creating the curriculum for it as I've taught it. I've taken a genre-based approach, where we watch 2-3 films in each genre and do some breakdowns and analyses. For horror, I have taken an "era" approach to show how the genre reflects changing societal fears. I plan to show Halloween (1978) and Get Out (2017) for two of the films, but I'm conflicted. Halloween shows some violent images, but that's kind of the point of why I'm showing it, but the partial nudity is what I'm worried about. The class is mature, but I may be making them uncomfortable (including myself). I plan to address it before watching and gauging reactions. For Get Out, there is A LOT of swearing and profanity, which is my concern there. Any thoughts/suggestions on whether this is appropriate? Should I find alternatives? Has anyone else shown these in a similar class? submitted by /u/AwsumDudemyster [link] [comments]
