I’m sick of it. Students out every other day, some out for weeks, and coming back and expecting to bypass all of the missed work and still passed the class. No, you’re getting all of the work that you missed in a packet that you have to complete ASAP if you miss multiple days. No, you have to come back during lunch or after school to make up the missed test. You cannot do your work during class time because we’re now working on something else that you will again be missing out on. No, you don’t get to wait until the very end to make up everything you missed. You need to do it as soon as you get back because I put in grades constantly. No, I will not exempt you from any assignment that is not due to an emergency/medical related issue and you don’t have a note. Not because your mom decided to take you on a little vacation. **************** These are all things I wish I could say to them, but of course it’s just a fantasy. Because they are seniors, and it will be MY fault if they fail and cannot graduate, I exempt many missed assignments all the time give them until the end of the unit to make up months late work and have to bite my tongue. Chronic absenteeism is normalized in my district. I post all work from the lesson of that day online and each student has access to the platform. Including all readings and homework assignments. Still, nothing gets done. I fudge so many grades at the end of each unit, it’s ridiculous. What is the point of school, then? ***************** That was just my little rant for this morning. I’m leaving this profession in another year entirely and can hardly wait. submitted by /u/OlliexAngel [link] [comments]
