I made a post here a couple of weeks ago about a student putting hand sanitizer in my water bottle. While it was never really handled, I did get the SRO to come talk to the whole grade about it. I got a lot of comments giving me great advice about how to handle it, I also got a lot of "they wouldn't do this if they respected you/ you had good classroom management" and "this is just kids being kids, this happened when I was in school". I read a post in this sub yesterday where a student essentially asked a teacher if she was getting laid over spring break. There were several comments criticizing this teacher for writing the student up instead of just handling it in class- some saying she wasn't cut out to be a teacher if she couldn't handle stupid comments like that. More of the same "kids say stupid things" and "you just have to deal with it when you teach that grade" comments too. Why do some teachers defend poor student behavior and throw other teachers under the bus when they refuse to be treated poorly? What's the end goal there, to let kids get away with more and more disrespect until there's no boundaries anymore? I feel like I just see more and more teachers throwing each other under the bus. Admin doesn't protect us, parents don't help us, so why attack each other? Telling teachers that things like inappropriate/sexually charged comments and putting hand sanitizer in drinks is normal and that they are overreacting by demanding a consequence is just WILD to me.
