Why are we as a society so obsessed with victimhood? One of my students was suspended for fighting. He told me he was head-butted and then called a slur. This is was started the fight. After hearing this, I immediately wrote to Admin to find out what happened so they could pull the high-def footage. I told mom, because I was curious if her son something to her about the incident that happened days prior. Unannounced, mom came immediately, within 30 minutes, because she doesn't work. From what I was told, she sat in the Office, fuming, and mean-mugging students, staff, and parents coming to sign in their students. Once she was called in to see the pulled footage, it was her son who 1) was the aggressor, 2) started the fight, and 3) tossed the child like a rag doll. Did mom's chip on her should get smaller? NO! She became more indignant. She's the mad and wasn't going to give up that label: VICTIM. Worst, is the teachers feeling bad that this kid is moving schools next year. No, Teach for America rookies: this student has a history of clobbering students during lunch. Oftentimes, he mishears things and turns violent. At least during SEL, with me and a co-teacher, he's learning that the only people who resort to violence each time are in jail. He's not getting this at home. submitted by /u/According2020 [link] [comments]
