Two Texans, both passionate about improving education for Black students, are locked in a heated debate over the effectiveness of education savings accounts (ESAs) as a solution. For one, ESAs represent a lifeline to escape the "burning house" of underfunded and underperforming public schools. However, the other views ESAs as a threat to the robust public school system that has been a cornerstone of American education for generations. As the debate rages on, the question remains: can ESAs truly provide a better education for Black students, or will they exacerbate existing inequalities?
