I’m an MYP teacher who just started at a school that’s always been IB, but academically it’s been quite weak. The kids were very spoon-fed before, and I don’t think the previous teaching really followed proper inquiry. Now I’m trying to actually do MYP the way it’s meant to be done. The students who just transitioned from PYP are doing really well and actually thriving. But the older ones (MYP 3–4) are really struggling with the approach. They’re quite lazy, have the attention span of a goldfish, and honestly do nothing in class most of the time. Anyway, today we had a pre-assessment, and one student basically wrote: “I know nothing because Ms. X doesn’t teach, she just makes me inquire and do work .” Which… is obviously not true. But I guess to a teenage brain it feels that way. The funny thing is this same student constantly cheats using AI and pays zero attention in class. He is quite intelligent though just lazy. Still, it got to me. Because I actually do care a lot. I put in a lot of effort, stay after school some days just to make their learning more meaningful, and it feels like they just don’t see any of that. Have any of you dealt with comments like this? I’m really struggling with it today submitted by /u/dintzii [link] [comments]
